The admittedly passionate tune opens with the reciting of a scripture that the rapper performs over the introduction of the instrumental track. Bizzle wants listeners, especially gay listeners, to understand “that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.”
In a reading of 2 Timothy 3:1, he adds, “people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.” Among other things, the Bible says to avoid such people.
Within the first few lines of the song, Bizzle brazenly announces his disgust with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’—the four-time Grammy-award-winning rapper and producer of the original “Same Love”—comparison of the historic struggle of African-Americans to the persecution of the LGBT community.
He raps: “They hung us like tree ornaments, where were you at? / They burned us for entertainment, you go through that?”
Furthermore, the Christian artist calls Macklemore and other “sell-out” rappers to task for “using black people as pawns” for their agendas. Later, he even drops a line in about rappers wearing skirts on stage. (That would be directed toward you, Kanye.)
By the end of the song, listeners will walk away craving the more uplifting message of the real “Same Love,” or you’ll simply resume listening to the beautiful, complete “The Velvet Underground & Nico” album on YouTube (while it’s still available).
Before that though, remember the key points: gays are violent, gays are sinful, gays are no better than pedophiles, and should not have marriage because they already have domestic partnerships, and God says marriage is between a man and a woman. Got that?
